Q. What was announced on September 17, 2019?
A. Health Care Communicators of San Diego (HCC) and Healthcare Public Relations and Marketing Association of Southern California (HPRMA) have entered into an agreement to merge. The new organization will be called Health Care Communicators of Southern California (HCCSC) with the following wordmark.
Q. Why merge?
A. This is a strategic opportunity for both HCC and HPRMA to join together to continue the shared mission of supporting healthcare communicators and stakeholders throughout the Southern California region. The merger will not only expand the regional footprint as the two organizations come together, but strengthen resources. While leveraging our combined size, we are committed to providing regional and local opportunities.
Q. What will be the new organization?
A. The new organization will be called Health Care Communicators of Southern California (HCCSC).
Q. How does this merger impact members?
A. Our priority through his process has been on expanding and strengthening benefits for our members. As the new organization is shaped there will be more opportunities for members to learn and grow together.
Q. When will the merger close?
A. All necessary paperwork has been submitted to the State of California Attorney General and we anticipate the merger will be finalized by mid-October, 2019.
Q. What happens to my membership?
A. Once the merger is finalized, all current HCC and HPRMA members will be granted membership to the new organization (HCCSC). There will be no change for HCC members—their annual membership will be up for renewal based on their 12-month cycle. HPRMA members will be asked starting January 1, 2020 to renew their membership with the new organization (HCCSC). The cost for renewal will be consistent with current HPRMA renewal cost structure and remain unchanged for at least a year following the close of the merger.
Q. How will the HCCSC be organized?
A. Both HCC and HPRMA boards have been meeting monthly to discuss the merger and have already started holding joint board meeting and sub-committee meetings to assist in a seamless transition. There will continue to be a board of directors that consists of members from the entire Southern California region.
Q. What changes will I see?
A. Once the merger takes place, you will see more opportunities to learn and grow with your fellow healthcare communicators throughout Southern California. We have dreamed big and will focus on three areas—continuing education, networking and peer recognition. Currently, we are focused on a smooth transition.
